Experience The Shipwright's Life

Newcastle Herald

Thursday December 16, 1999

FROM matching paint colours to making quotes and carrying out boat repairs, the shipwright sought by Marmong Cove Marina will be expected to perform a range of tasks.

Manager Troy Atkin said applicants need to have prior experience in the area.

`They need to know what they are doing; whether it's from an apprenticeship or a previous job,' Mr Atkin said.

`We would even settle for a boat repairer, or someone who has been around boats for a long time and knows what they are doing.'

The position will involve assessing boats with clients, providing a quote on the work, and carrying out the work.

It will include insurance repairs on boats that run aground or are involved in boating accidents.

Boats requiring work will mostly be timber or fibreglass, with vessels ranging from yachts to cruisers.

Skills in applying gelcoat and spray painting are also important.

`The shipwright will need to match the gelcoat with the existing paint job,' said Mr Atkin.

`They will need a good eye to make sure the colours blend in exactly.'

The position's hours will be 8.30am to 5pm, five days a week.

Call the Marina on 4958 3333 for an interview.
